Scripture Text (NRSV)
125:1 Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be
moved, but abides forever.
125:2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his
people, from this time on and forevermore.
125:3 For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest on the land
allotted to the righteous, so that the righteous might not stretch out
their hands to do wrong.
125:4 Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, and to those who are
upright in their hearts.
125:5 But those who turn aside to their own crooked ways the LORD will
lead away with evildoers. Peace be upon Israel!
Comments:
I am working with the theme the ascent. I visited
Jerusalem years ago, and it really struck me how
the drive from Ashdod was literally "up"
the mountain. A relative small mountain, compared
to mountains I have hiked.
But a mountain range none the less. So
"marching upward to Zion" actually was a
walk up a grade to get there, to Jerusalem. How
often have we found ourselves listening to a great
sermon, or been on a wonderful retreat, or had a
"Mountain Top" walk on the beach at
sunset, and then the realities of life sometimes
carries us through the valley. I'd like to post
more thoughts but it's late in the week and I am
getting ready for Sunday. Prayers for a good
confident word, from the Word!
