An Easter Sunrise Service -- Scriptures and Hymns

Gathering Hymn or Prelude

Call to Worship:

L: The Lord Jesus is risen
P: He is risen indeed!
L: Praise be to God in the Highest!
All: Hallelujah! Amen.

Opening Hymn

Unison Prayer:

O Lord, your wondrous birth means nothing unless we are born again, your death and sacrifice mean nothing unless we die to sin, your resurrection means nothing if you be risen alone.
Raise us and exalt us, O Savior, now to the state of grace, and hereafter to the state of glory; where with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 31: 9-16 (Responsively, if you have responsive Psalter readings in your hymnal. )

Hymn

Lighting of the Paschal Candle (if outdoors and windy you may want to use an oil lamp with glass cylinder):

Leader lights the candle, saying: The light of Christ rises in glory, overcoming the darkness of sin and death.

The paschal candle is lifted so that all may see it, and all respond:   Christ is our light!

Reading: Isaiah 53: 1-7 "A Man of Sorrows"

Blessing / Sending Forth: We are sent forth in the power of Christ's resurrection.   Alleluia!  The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy spirit be with you all. Amen.
