Here we see a classic example of a test a true prophet. Hananiah proclaiming peace and prosperity in direct opposition to the word of the Lord which says there shall be destruction of the temple and a firestorm provided by God because of the continual rebellion. (which is as the sin of witchcraft)
It's interesting to note that Jeremiah didn't withstand Hananiah when he took the yoke from Jeremiah's neck(quite forcefully no doubt). The prophet edured this humiliation and afront in the site of all the observers. However, the response of the true prophet was clear and direct. You have falsely spoke the Word of God and misled the people and for this you will die, very soon, within the year, no less.
Time has a way of proving God to be true and every man a liar. Even more, history has shown that in every economy, God sends His Voice to the people and in times of impending doom His voice is raised in direct opposition to the deception of the false prophets in hopes the light of His truth would cause one to heed the warning and save themselves from the disaster.
As we consider these perilous times and lift our eyes to the hills, looking upon the high and lofty, one can see the tale of two prophets. As those worshipping in the high places sacrificing to false gods and practicing all sorts of abominable acts, there are voices crying out and prophecies proclaimed of impending doom.
Yet like Hananiah, there are false prophecies uttered that prosperity and security will rule the day(and night) but we shall see very soon the demise of those who are drunk on the blood of the innocent and who have become decieved into believing in a false sense of security as they continue the pursuit of pleasure rapped in a cloak of deception.
Just as God would not be mocked then, He won't be today! There can be no peace when injustice and falsehood prevail and the innocent blood that is shed calls out to God for justice. Swift retrobution is quikly approaching the people who do such things and espeacially those who lie to the people with false prophecies of peace and prosperity.
